William and Flora Hewlett Foundation Makes $200,000 Gift to Mountain View’s Magical Bridge Playground
Mountain View, CA October 29, 2018 — Magical Bridge Foundation is thrilled to announce a milestone gift of $200,000 from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, which will support the Community Stage and Treehouse for the Mountain View Magical Bridge Playground.
“The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and Magical Bridge share guiding principles – promoting the values and practice of diversity, equity, and inclusion,” said Magical Bridge Foundation Executive Director Olenka Villareal. “We are so grateful for their generosity and can’t wait to bring more magical play to Mountain View.”
This generous gift brings the Magical Bridge Foundation even closer to fully funding the Mountain View Playground, and moving the playground into the final design and construction phase. Currently, the project is slated to complete fundraising by December 2018, break ground in 2019, and open to the public in 2020.
Magical Bridge Playgrounds are mindfully designed to be socially inclusive for children and adults of varying abilities, including those with physical and cognitive disabilities, autism, hearing and visual impairments, and even the aging population. The first Magical Bridge Playground in Palo Alto opened in April 2015 and attracts more than 20,000 local, regional and international visitors monthly. Due to the success of this first Magical Bridge Playground and the abundant requests to build new Magical Bridge Playgrounds, Magical Bridge Foundation was formed in January 2016. Planning is already underway for the next several Magical Bridge Playgrounds in California, including Redwood City, Sunnyvale, and Morgan Hill communities.
For over 50 years the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation has supported efforts and programs that focus on education, environment, global development and population, performing arts, and effective philanthropy, as well as support for disadvantaged communities in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Visit Magical Bridge Foundation for information about the playground and ways to support the project.
